Weidmann assembly Press

Swiss engineering masters Weidmann have perfected the assembly press, with more than 5000 piercing presses in use in twenty countries around the world. An assembly press is used for crimping, staking, swaging and clinching on the assembly line, and relied upon by mechanical engineers for joining two or more parts together and making holes in metal, without the use of rivets, screws, or adhesives. Weidmann prides itself on its range of durable, powerful and effective piercing presses.

The piercing assembly press

An assembly press can cut clean holes into metal and flat components can be made by pressing the shaped tool into a sheet material using shearing. A die tool is used to cut or shape material using a press. Without the piercing press, the assembly line would need to be interrupted several times to accommodate fastening processes – substantially decreasing volumes and increasing production delays.

Types of assembly press

Weidmann manufactures a comprehensive range of piercing presses from junior presses of 1.5 tonnes to 5-tonne presses and custom designs. Junior presses are 1.5 tonne presses suited to small workshops and lighter applications and are made from high quality steel with an adjustable brake and force-feed lubrication. The U-Junior model is a 2-tonne press with gearing that is perfectly suited to a fine assembly process. The HWP 5 model is a more robust press with a gear ratio of 1:100 that features a very compact construction with minimal lifting and sturdy design and the EP 5 has a large height and a big capacity with a gear ratio of 1:100 and an adjustable brake. At the upper end of the spectrum, the MV 5 model is a 5-tonne press with an adjustable table which is not limited by a spindle – allowing for extra inside height. Its large sized stand, big guides and strong table clamps control lifting under maximum loads. It's clear that a press is available for almost every need but should you need something different, Weidmann will design custom presses up to 5 tons pressure for our clients.

Standards and ethics of assembly press design

Weidmann began supplying the Swiss manufacturing industry in 1943 and started making its own press tools in 1950. For more than 70 years the company has prided itself on its ergonomic design and structural excellence. Years of design experience and a commitment to ergonomic design principles and structurally sound components ensure that each of our products meets and exceeds market standards for assembly press design and function.
